QuickFrame was designed to do just one thing – create blank chart images for inductive bible study. StudyWorx started there and began to expand these capabilities to include the entire charting process. However by the time I had built enough features into StudyWorx to do this I realized that I was just a couple features away from having a complete online education package. I realized the advantage of this and pressed on. It has been three years but StudyWorx is now a complete online education platform.

StudyWorx Features

• Administration
  • Handles registration and staffing of many simultaneous schools or courses.
  • Allows new courses to be created using the previous one as a template to avoid tedious re-entering of the entire curriculum.
  • Possible to run remotely on its own inexpensive hardware for places that do not have reliable internet service.
  • Possible to set up your own branded instance of StudyWorx – on dedicated hardware if necessary.
• Assignments
  • Handles three categories of assignment.
    • Essay Assignments – basically anything you can do on a word processor
      • Includes a reusable template system to reduce repetition for the teacher preparing the curriculum.
    • Discussion Assignments – class discussion format for doing formal graded discussion work.
    • Inductive Bible Studies – Complete tools for doing all or part of the Inductive Study Method online
      • Capable of handling the complete inductive process online.
      • All or parts of this process can be done online.
      • Prints via html(web page) pdf(Adobe Reader) or jpg(images)
      • Vertical chart images now include the inside observations if desired – you are no longer limited to producing only blank image charts.
  • Create extensive help and resource links on a per assignment level.
  • Each assignment can have any number of tasks, each with its own instructions and resources.

• Grading
  • Sets completion times for assignments.
  • Has extensive grading and feedback views that allow the attachment of notes to specific areas of an assignment.
  • Allows students to be assigned to specific staff – easily re-assignable in case of illness etc.
  • Several helpful grading reports
  • Internal messaging system to facilitate staff/student communication.
  • Create a grading guide for each type of assignment or for individual assignments

Revised Feature list:

• Students and Staff will be organized into “schools”
  • Each school will have:
    • It’s own grading system
    • Assignment specifications
    • And full online capabilities for completing, printing, and grading the assignments.
    • It can also be used as a simple chart framing program in the same way that QuickFrame is currently used
• Every effort will be made to make the work flow as smooth and simple as possible.
• Hopefully I will have a working prototype by fall (2007) and a release sometime in 2008.

StudyWorx is the name I am tentatively considering since it is going to be a comprehensive tool for the Inductive study of the Bible. Essentially, my goal is to create an entire school environment. This includes the ability to complete all assignments in StudyWorx if desired (creating frames will still be possible), grading, staff/student communications, and printing to pdf for the final product. Essentially I want to provide an infrastructure for schools to sign up and run their entire school from StudyWorx. I also want to be able to run an open, full featured, Online, school for anyone that wants to study the Bible Inductively.
